Gornall agt Burgoyne, Lutwidge, Wilson, Ward and Pickup
Witnesses with respect to Wilson and attack on the plts House
Saw Dft. Wilson amongst the mob in Church Street a little after they entered the Town and heard him tell them to Jack Gornalls at the Tun and pell? well away " Says the mob imediately did go to plts House wch they forcibly broke into & throw a great many goods into the street which they broke to pieces. Saw Deft. Ward amongst them and says he threw stones against the windows and window shutters before they entered the House.

Speaks to plts House being attackt & goods thrown into the street but before such attack saw no stones thrown at the mob out of the House. Mr Fisher the witness then lived near plt and says the mob as they often passed plts House stopt & said "Lye in Lad let us do what we have left undone for damn him he is not done enough.

That after the greatest part of the mob left Preston he frequently went to plts house wch was stript of all the Furniture below stairs & the parlour was quite laid upon. That as 100 of the Rioters staid in Town plt durst not go about to repair his House. That he lost Customers because he had no ale nor durst not brew.

Says plt before any contest with respect to the Preston Election brewed upon an average three Loads of Malt a week each Load containing 6 barells.

On Ash Wednesday 1768 little after the mob came into Preston she saw Deft. Wilson amongst them but did not hear him give them any directions.

Witnesses with respect to the Conduct & behaviour of Defts Burgoyne & Lutwidge
Saw mob a little after they entered the Town come before the Dog Door that Deft. Burgoyne looked out of the window and addressed them by saying "Well done my Lads you are all my friends. That (pointing at Mr Parkers House) he said there was one lived there who was very sick but desired they would not disturb him tho' he was no friend of his but as for the rest they might use their pleasure.

On Shrove Tuesday 1768 was sent for by Deft. Lutwidge who then lived in Preston that he went to him and was desired by Lutwidge to go and get as many men as he could to Mob at Preston & gave witness three guineas to spend amongst them & bid him tell them he would pay them for coming. That witness accordingly went to Brindle and raised 100 men there and afterwards went to Moulden Water & Over Darwen where he raised more. That Eccles, another witness, went with him and that they brought to Preston above 200 mobbers on Ash Wednesday in the Evening. That on Thursday morning he went into Lord Strange's House and that when he was there he inquired if Col. Burgoyne was in and upon his being told he was witness was introduced to him and told him that on account of his journey to Darwen to fetch the mob in he was either 4 or 5 and fifty shillings out of pocket & desired Deft. Burgoyne to pay him who said "You must go to Mr Shaw my agent and he will pay you." That witness did go to Mr Shaws house and was paid the money by Richard Loxham Mr Shawes Clerk. And gave a Receit for it. That the mother of a young man who she said had been ill abused in Blackburn in his way to Preston in order to mob applied to witness to ask Deft. Burgoyne to give her a little money that he did apply accordingly and that Deft. Burgoyne gave her 6s.

That witness was told by Holland that Mr Lutwidge desired he would go with Holland to raise men to mob. That witness being desirous of being better satisfied about the orders as to himslef going went to Deft. Lutwidge who said he had ordered Holland to raise men and upon witness asking for money as a necessary thing about the business Lutwidge said he had given Holland 3 guineas for the purpose and upon being asked who would maintain the mob he said he and Burgoyne would. That upon witness asking Lutwidge if there should be any damage done in Preston by the mob how they might come off. Lutwidge answered never mind that but think of Heald, Gornall and Dawson and do them all the damage you can. That witness refused to go and went home and did not appear in Preston again untill the Saturday following when he saw Col. Burgoyne passing in the Market place. That witness asked one Jude Harrison who had got a broken head how he got it, that Harrison answered with mobbing for Burgoyne. That witness told him he durst not show it Burgoyne and ask him for money But that Harrison did and that Burgoyne gave him half a crown.
